Cash-Romantic Music Machine, FEEDBACK FANZINE #88, Kev Rowland

In #85 I said just how much I was impressed with the three track CD that I had been sent from Poland. Now I have had the opportunity to listen to the debut album and all I can say is that the praise that I heaped on them back then is just not enough. The three songs from ‘Cash-Romantic Band’ are here, along with another eight, and the extra length has really allowed the band to expand and show that they can blend folk with jazz in a way that manages to be challenging and inviting all at the same time. Some of the lyrics are in English and some in Polish but that just adds to the mystique and the joy of what is taking place in front of your very ears. Violin and vocally led by Tylda Ciolkosz this is a band that is refusing to be put into any pigeonhole and instead appear to be taking a delight in touching as many musical bases as possible. What strikes one most is the inventiveness of what they are performing and the feeling that this is a band that really does come tom life onstage – I can ‘see’ them playing and bouncing ideas off each other while at all times having huge smiles on their faces. This is progressive music in its very truest sense, producing something that is very unlike what is around yet at the same time bringing in recognisable influences such as Fairport or Hatfield. This is just superb and definitely needs to be heard far more widely than just in Poland.
